Innovations/Improvements
My friends have always said that I am hilarious when I tell stories because I make them so interactive that they feel like they were there too. I firmly believe that this is why my students enjoy my classes so much. I talk to them, we watch funny or interesting video clips about the concepts I have found, and we have a dialogue, not just a lecture. At the beginning of every class, I spend time just talking to students about shows on tv, current events, or just what they did last weekend. This personal rapport I have built makes them very comfortable talking to me after class with questions or setting up a time to chat about their issues or course suggestions.

I believe in incorporating my students' ideas and suggestions to make me a better teacher. On the first day of class, I tell my students what my course is about, and then I ask them what they would like to learn from it and do my best to incorporate any suggestions that fit within the scope. I make it very clear that my class is dynamic, and some things may shift as we go through the semester, but I also lay out a complete syllabus with all projects listed online at the start of the semester to make it easy to follow. I also make all assignments due on Sunday nights to make it easier for them to remember to get things done, which was a suggestion from one of my students who worked and was taking multiple courses. Midway through the course and at the close, I ask my students for suggestions to improve my class. From the beginning of class, I make it very clear that I am a new professor, so I would like their help to get better. I think incorporating their suggestions has made me a better teacher, which is reflected in my evaluations as my ratings improve each semester.
